In this chapter, the family gather in Vienna to bid farwell to Empress Zita, with all the ceremony of old. Alois and Aunt Sophie attend, and meet Karl and Vina's children. When Bekka arrives home, she has a telephone call from András that they need help with Hilda, who is in her last days with cancer. Bekka stays through the funeral, and has a conversation with Brian.
