Chapter Twenty-Four Asylum Berlin 11 May 1945 In this chapter, the girls finally reach Berlin, and the safety of the British sector. There, they are first interrogated, which causes a disruption given their work and identities. But they are soon welcomed as members almost of staff, making themselves useful. Bekka has a welcome conversation with Otto, and is able to have Kalli properly baptised by a saintly Jesuit priest. Bekka meets a young woman with a baby also come from Dresden, and ponders the problem of the Lieutenant, who is sweet on her. She receives word of her assignment as a spy with MI6 and is not best pleased. She receives a new identity. Reichsfürher Himmler also is in British custody, but his time with them ends badly under highly dodgy circumstances, which they are quick to cover up.
