In this chapter Bekka and Alois go to school, the family spend the sumer at Uncle Fritz's summer house at
Falkenau in Czechoslovakia and learn practical skills; the family spend time in service together; Bekka learns more about Sisi and Franz Josef and Grandmamma, and makes a new - and Jewish - friend at school, from the famous
von Arnstein family, long connected with the Imperial family. and the families attend a special children's performance at the Opera.
We learn more about how Wolf acquired his ideaologies, why Sepp joined the SA and how he became Wolf's best friend; Himmler creates the SD and the Gestapo; Claus von Stauffenberg joins the Wehrmacht and meets his incredible wife Nina; and Dietrich Bonhoeffer becomes a pacifist and determines to be a theologian.
